GANDHINAGAR: In a major decision taken to ensure healthcare services for the police force, state government has issued health-cards to 60,000 policemen including those serving in the State Reserve Police.
And it���s not only the policemen, but also their family members who are entitled to the benefits assured - like medical treatment in government as well private hospitals in case they are afflicted with dreaded diseases like cancer and kidney ailments.

Reliable sources in the home department said that on the basis of data available about health problems affecting the police personnel, experts would examine the health-cards so as to suggest preventive measures for conditions like hypertension and diabetes.
As per the arrangements made by the government, policemen and their family members would be also given specialised treatment at corporate hospitals if recommended by the civil surgeon.
Their medical bills would be reimbursed from the Police Welfare Fund. When contacted, state principal secretary (home) K C Kapoor told TOI that the government has taken a series of measures for the welfare of the policemen.
